I thought this was discussed once before but I am unable to locate the
specific thread in the archives. I am wondering what rendering intent
is used for the 3D plot of color profiles in ColorSync Utility, and
also ColorThink Pro?
When I do a Hold for Comparison in ColorSync Utility v4.5 and then
also compare the same two profiles in ColorThink Pro I get different
views.
For example if I look at US Web Coated SWOP v2 and sRGB in ColorSync
Utility one can see that there are many CMYK colors that extend beyond
the sRGB boundary. Colors that a Web fed press can hit but only if
your RGB space is not too small to contain them in the first place.
There are reds, greens, cyans, and yellows that bulge out of the
illustration and the yellows are from the top of the L* scale to the
bottom when viewed in ColorSync Utility.
When I compare the same two profiles in ColorThink Pro then it only
shows the typical green and cyan colors being clipped by sRGB. The
rest of the CMYK colors fit within the gamut plot.
So what rendering intent is being used for mapping the 3D plot?
Thanks,
David Wollmann
