With the 180 -- a superlative lens, to be sure -- you need a *lot*
more subject-to-camera distance
which is exactly why I prefer that sort of lens. I have a good sized
room to work in placing the art on a wall. I can do about a 40x60 in
a single capture with a 5DII/180mm if I don't need high res. I drop
down to a 100mm Macro for anything larger. Keeping the camera to
subject distance large minimizes problems with artwork that isn't
perfectly flat/square. Keeping the lights at a great distance also
makes it easier to achieve super even lighting on a large surface.
