I need to reproduce a printed CMYK image. The original printed image doesn't have a conventional screen -- it looks like an enlarged stochastic screen has been used as a graphic effect.
Here's a tiny section at actual size (1200dpi): <http://rgb2cmyk.co.uk/i/17707-detail.jpg>
The problem I've got is that I would like to end up with CMYK bitmaps that get as close as possible to the originals used to create the plates -- not a colour-matched contone reproduction of the original image that looks the same from a distance when printed with a nice fine screen.
I then wondered if it was possible to generate a profile which was comprised of only 14 colours + white that could be used with say saturation intent to separate the RGB image to only clean combinations of the CMYK primaries?
And then wondered if anybody else had experimented with anything like this before I start playing...
