So my guess why Richard was not happy with the uniformity of the
monitors he tested is
a) they where not uniform (regarding FograCert criteria) -- could be,
but not likely
b) Richards needs are very high and the monitors might have met the
criteria of FograCert Softproofing System, the uniformity might still
not be "good enough" for his wishes
Dear Peter
Many thanks for your observations.
My take on this is really quite simple<G>
1. Like many others I take trouble to have a monitor well calibrated and
profiled.
2. Have an ideal viewing environment.
3. Take care with the quality of the files.
If my monitor shows a noticeable colour shift from one side of the
screen to the other combined with a significant brightness shift that in
an image file would shout out for a curves adjustment, then I do not
think it unreasonable to question the quality of the monitor. Just the
same as I would expect a transparency light table sold for professional
use to be an even colour and brightness from side to side and top to
bottom.
The above problem is what I have found on three 30" NEC SpectraView
monitors and three of their 27" SpectraView monitors. By comparison I
found the 24" Eizo looked at on the same set up was almost perfect but
at 24" was too small. Why not then have a pair of the Eizo monitors
someone will ask? Well quite simply I find the 'break' caused by two
monitors unsatisfactory for me.
Price is not a major concern for me with regard to choosing a monitor
for the work I'm doing, so I'm open to suggestions from any monitor
manufacturer or vendor able to supply to the UK!
Kind regards
Richard
