Sorry--didn't see that this question was also posted to the group. I was able to get a clarification from Roger that the question was really about EFI XF's base lin procedure. No, it isn't based on density. The algorithms are proprietary and are based on spectral measurements from each model of printer and its ink set. Gray balance, gamut, lightness, overprints, smoothness of gradations, light-dark ink distribution--all these factors are taken into account. This is very different from only simple Status E or T density linearization of the primary ramps and total ink limit setting that more basic RIPs may have.
