At this point it would be worth the money to get back what we had before. And in IMO would be a legitimate feature and improvement to have such a regression.
I don't like the spectre of double color management, one would think that could have been more elegantly resolved. But what we have now is worse because it's inconsistent/unreliable. But again, there are two components to the new thing and the inconsistency if a different problem that double color management mitigation, even though it's ostensibly the domain of the same SPI.
