Ok, I just put together and read this entire thread; I didn't realize it was
so long-running and fragmented. In my previous posts I had been missing some
key bits of previous discussion. Some of what I posted may have been a bit
off or redundant. Sorry (though perhaps some may still find it useful).
Just one question remains for me in the context of this whole discussion
though. If Apple's own Workgroup Manger has and can accomplish the feature
that everyone seems to be clamoring for, doesn't the basic technology for
implementing it already exist in the OS? In other words, could it be as
"simple" as Apple exposing the .GlobalPreferences.ByHost pref to users
through the GUI and/or scripting? Would it be that hard for a third party to
write a utility that would set this pref?
