That should be true. I don’t have an NEC branded colorimeter, I use the i1Pro and it works quite well but I can’t say how much better calibration of blacks (darks) would be with the matted colorimeter. You have the budget, go for it.

Of course if budge is an issue, just see how well you can do with the free Multiprofiler. I’ve heard a lot of happy users of that product.
