Not clear to me why you think this is necessarily a color-sync problem. I'm no computer engineer, but from your description I'd suspect a more general OS or hardware issue, combined with your OS being quite out of date - perhaps you have stuff on the computer it doesn't work well with?

Subject: Colorsync Issue with MacBook Pro
MacBookPro, purchased 2007, version 10.4.11 (Tiger)
2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Graphics/Displays: GeForce 8600M GT
Advanced experience with Macintosh
Note: ColorSync Profile First Aid Log (see below)
Recently my MBPro display screen started randomly turning into a pale translucent blue, green, or red grid over my desktop. Rebooting normalizes it.
Possibly related, my Foxfire browser says it can't upgrade higher due to Tiger, and
Recently, the Parallels virtual machine, I created three years ago to run Windows on my MBPro, broke. The desktop freezes. Don't know if it is related ~ I must sort all this out as well.
I've joined this group in the hope of learning why this happened and exploring fixes to the ColorSync problem. The utility showed up on my desktop a couple of weeks ago when this began, so, I've used it to attempt to repair profiles, but it doesn't or can't.
I've researched on the Internet regarding incorrect profiles in the hope I could correct the tags myself. Did not come up with anything very helpful. Could this be happening because my system is getting older in tech terms? ColorSync may be broken or malfunctioning is what I understand. Should I reinstall my current OS X system? If so, I'll consider upgrading to Snow Leopard. I'm still with Tiger due to my Parallels set up and OS X upgrade negative reviews, but, me thinks, my MBPro's peanut gallery doth protest.
I have automatic weekly BackUps and also use Disk Warrior when necessary.
Thanks!
Marsha
