Dear Tom, aka Honorable Gentleman occupying the ICC Chair,
I see no reason why Adobe's implementation of color management -or any
one else's- should be ICC compliant if there is no official publicly
available ICC test suite.
It is wholly to your credit that you realize and admit publicly that
the state of the "low-end middle-end market", is miserable. This can
be partly laid at the door of our own ICC process, which has
functioned as a private club, invested huge energy writing
"standards"documents, got mired in feature creep (V4), failed to
publicly release test tools which would allow implementations to be
assessed for compliance, and failed to engage with the broad community
of third party developers.
We don't need yet another workgroup, that ends up as a two-hour block
on the ICC meet schedule with the same people in the room and the
coffee going stale. We need direct engagement with the broad
community of engineers and customers who are passionate about color.
Throw open the ICC windows and let in some fresh air. My suggestion:
create a technical forum where both end-users and engineers could
post. Let anyone attend meetings. And, finally PLEASE provide some
test tools, even though applying them to ICC members software might
embarrass!
