Hi Steve,
Yes, if you applied your new profile via absolute colormetric in Colorthink
to the a P2P color list and saved a text file out with CMYK and LAB values,
then placed the text file in a ³Color Standards² folder in the same
directory in the application folder, then curve will see the file and use it
as reference data for KCMYRGB target values and the gray balance dialogue in
the ³create curves² tab will display your new paper color as ³paper white².
Alternately, instead of synthesizing data from an ICC profile, you could
have edited the paper value in the file ""Beta Offset Uncoated 2009.txt" and
loaded that into Curve and saved a trip into Colorthink.
If your paper color is very different (e.g. Has 5b* less than the
IDEAlliance beta data), then do not expect to hit all your KCMYRGB targets.
We set up our presses to FOGRA47, which isn't too unlike the IDEAlliance
uncoated beta data IMO, with a very blue opaque sheet (Lynx, Cougar, etc..)
and focus mainly on the hue angles for RGB overprints (after dryback.) I can
never hit Magenta with our inkset on this type of paper.
Typical dE on an "blue" uncoated sheet referencing Fogra47 for us is [C 2.5,
M 6.5, Y 3, K 0.5, R 2.6, G 3, B 2.5]
Although we updates press curves via G7 periodically we get a reasonable
match to hard copy proofs referencing FOGRA47.
Matt Louis
