Jose,
There are two different concepts:
1) Camera profiles based on ICC / ColorSync standards
2) Settings files for Adobe Camera Raw and associated products (like DNG Profile Editor) called profiles by Adobe
1) is a cross product international standard. ICC profiles are used by Photoshop and other image editors for a lot of purposes (like color managing printers, scanners etc.). The discussion with Iliah Borg was about this type of profiles. With ICC profiles you have some software to create printer profiles (they are output optimized) or scanner & camera profiles (which are input optimized). ICC profiles describe the color gamut of a color device, so in our case the color gamut of a digital camera.
2) is an optimized settings file for Adobe Camera Raw and associated products. They only work in this environment. These DNG profiles describe Camera Raw settings, nothing else. Adobe calls them profiles, which creates a lot of confusion among users.
Bottom line:
While both "profiles" try to achieve similar goals on a first glimpse, workflows, contents and environments are very different.
Hope this helps,
Karsten
