Yes, this cleaning approach is also available in the 4900, and I have a sense that cleaning a pair of heads uses a very, very small amount of ink - a huge improvement over the 4800.

An important improvement to the wide format Epson printers is the change of design for the cutter.
Most of the head blockages we got when using 9600 and 9880 series printers seem to be caused by the paper debris from the blade that was attached to the print head.
I now use the 9900 for contract proofing. It parks the head and then uses a separate trimmer to cut the paper -- and blockages are extremely rare.
Cleaning is also less costly because you can choose to clean the heads by colour pair rather than having to clean all the heads if a single colour was blocked.
