On the subject of gamut mapping, I was asked to look at a major US ad campaign recently where the GRACoL profile was unable to produce colours that would be fairly easy to nail in Europe using ISO Coated v2.
Rich, dark blue shadows are impossible to reproduce from RGB images in GRACoL -- they get neutralised and the resulting CMYK is nothing like you'd want (unless you are doing 4 colour black & white <g> ).
I made a device link in Argyll and got excellent results from it. Although, I should add, that these were excellent results on proof and press -- not on screen as the GRACoL profile fails spectacularly here too.
Thanks again for providing the tools to override profile behaviour that is detrimental to images..
