Peter,
I see that you are right. I was assuming you meant that the preview image was assigned an sRGB profile, but it is converted to sRGB, so out-of-gamut colors are lost. And this is with high-quality thumbnails enabled.

1) Top-left: A ProPhoto RGB image with intense reds, in Photoshop CC.
2) Top-right: A duplicate of the same image, ASSIGNED to sRGB, in Photoshop CC.
3) Bottom-left: A duplicate of the same image, CONVERTED to sRGB, in Photoshop CC.
4) Bottom-right: Bridge CS 5.1 preview of the original ProPhoto RGB image, with gamut identical to the sRGB-converted one.
