Did you account for flare?
That’s the big advantage of photomultiplier drum scans — decreased light scatter in oil mounted originals and the minimal “flying spot” illumination from the light source.
Flatbed and faux drum scanners cannot compete against that even if their actual resolution capabilities are better.
There’s far too much light scattering around in strip illumination -- including that bouncing about within the dry-mounted negs & trannies.
