I too used LinoColor and Newcolor in the old days. To be clear, that scanner like all others produced RGB data. The software provided a Lab interface but the data was RGB and could be converted to Lab none the less. We can do that too in Photoshop (work in RGB, view Lab feedback). Personally for scanning, I think it's best to get "Scanner RGB" as defined as an input profile out of it. The fewer conversions the better for a number of reasons. The only downside is it's not necessarily well behaved (where R=G=B is neutral).
