We always convert full-color neutral images using a high-GCR profile to
significantly reduce the CMY in the highlights and midtones, to avoid a
color cast on press. Using this method has worked extremely well in
preventing minor-but-unwanted color casts, as the highlights and midtones
have plenty of black to compensate for any minor ink variations.
For example c43 m34 y35 k6 (a slightly lighter than middle grey) would end
up as c12 m8 y9 k38.
This of course only applies to offset printing; digital printing should not
have any trouble printing full-color neutral images without introducing an
unwanted color cast.
