Interestingly I have two profiled screens attached to my MacBook Pro and when I tried this test and moved my Safari window from one to the MBP and then the other one of the external displays shows incompatibility with V4 profiles! I reversed the attached thunderbolt adapters and all were then color managed properly. Switched them again, and then one didn’t’ see version 4 profiles again. I did this several times and the results were actually somewhat unpredictable. Sometimes I got them to all see the profile and sometimes not – but it was always the same monitor that would fail when it did. Finally I used the monitor utility to reassign the profiles and all was well again. Just when you think you’ve got it nailed…

But if you are producing images of scenes for the world of viewers out
there, you should expect displays with gamma 2.4

I expect an ICC color managed computer, which should be completely
sufficient to ensure correct color reproduction in all kinds of viewing
environments, shouldn’t it?

Go to http://www.color.org/version4html.xalter
In your browsers, on your cellphone.

The result is quite disappointing.
I find Safari on Mac to be fully compliant. The others are not.
No color management on my cellphone.

No, don't assume gamma 2.4, instead assume sRGB.
