At Shutterfly, we used to use Photo-Tex polyester fabric for wall decals. You
should be aware that there's a couple of flavors of that media, one for aqueous
inks and another for solvent inks (Photo-Tex S). Make sure you have the correct
one.
The last time I profiled the Photo-Tex solvent ink media was on the Epson
SureColor S60600 printer using an EFI Fiery XF RIP and didn't have any problems
with it. You may have to consider RIP software that gives you better control
over ink restrictions than printer driver media settings. It would also be a
great learning process for your students to start with the "raw" unrestricted
behavior of one of these printers and learn how to properly calibrate it prior
to profiling.
