They seem to be small children, afraid of the dark (i.e. a pathetic excuse
that deserves contempt.)
Really, users aren't so dumb as to start blaming the display manufacturer
when they ran software 'X' and something went wrong. They are right to
blame display manufacturers if they make devices that are easy to
brick merely by configuring them (i.e. that permanently stop working in a way
that needs an EEPROM re-flash etc.), and don't have a simple and fairly obvious
way of returning a display to factory default.
They are also right to condemn display manufacturers that are deliberately
holding back technical progress by actively preventing inter-operability
and user choice. Such manufacturers are sending a clear message that
customers needs are not their priority.
