No there is no way to tell whether the port on a device is digital or
analog. Many transport layers, particularly USB (and probably FireWire too
since it hews closely to the USB Audio spec, but I don't know for sure),
don't provide this information. Some do (or at least can) and I've
considered adding support for it. Given the inconsistent nature of the
hardware in this regard, it seems dicey to depend on such a feature.
