I agree completely. You cannot rely on it today. Hopefully more devices will
support such extended options in the future. But I also think the OS should
support those features.

It's a "chicken and egg (and another egg?)" situation. The OS doesn't need
to implement it if devices don't. Devices don't need it if OS does support
it.

Such features then need to be implemented in applications in ways that are
useful to the user. Ease of use and configuration will be enhanced if an
application can expose ports definitely and in plain language to the user.

Can we all agree to work toward this?
