I have much the same problem. On OS 9.1 with an OMS-based app I'm
writing, midi play from my tiny CyberSound keyboard doesn't work with
QuickTime as the output node (though the lights on my MOTU interface
blink happily away). However, if I plug-in my wife's Roland MT-80s and
switch my OMS setup to use that as the output, everything works
flawlessly.
I also have a problem when making a program (sound) change. Under
QuickTime, I have to send the message twice, with the Roland, it works
the first time, as expected.
I'd love to see this cleared up. (The program change problem I'm having
also occurred under QT4.

And are there any plans for Apple to fix this? Our app makes important

QuickTime

is
anything we are doing wrong. Also, I have tried many other apps
(Digital
Performer 2.7/FreeMIDI 1.45 with QuickTime built-in synth, MasterTracks
Pro
in Built-in Synth Mode, QT player [which did NOT work for me], etc.)
that
seem to exhibit the same problems: choppy playback, static-like
playback,
uneven playback, etc. The problem seems to occur with virtual memory
on or
off, although sometimes changing that setting would make a difference
in the
"severity" of the poor playback.
Anybody have more info on this? Possible work-arounds? Known good/bad
OS
system combinations. I had been testing this mostly on 9.0.4. I have
heard
of similar problems from our QA department on problematic playback in
9.1
and 9.2 also.

Hi,
The QuickTime (MIDI) Synth worked very good under OS 8/9 until
QuickTime
was
updated to version 5.
The only software that seems to work OK is the Apple QT player.
Does anyone know if the problem persists under OS X?
Thanks
