Just a (pitch black) shot in the dark: Does anyone on this list know, or know someone who would know, how to directly access the sound hardware on the Apple Newton (2x00 specifically) from compiled C code? It would be a *large* help with the MP3 player to be able to do this and not have to drop back into Newtonscript ever couple seconds to setup the buffer again, and it could possibly let the code be preemptively threaded.
