I'm not sure what the calling sequence would be in Java, but in a C flavored language, you just have to get the property, kAudioDevicePropertyDeviceNameCFString, from the stream object. Note that it is common for streams to not have names.

Thanks for your reply. So what I have is more a User Interface Guideline
problem: The api can return more than one stram. (Lucky me, my
audio card appears as 4 devices with one tream each).

What are the user interface guidelines if I have more than one stream
and streams have no names?
Give them names, even if made-up so the user has some consistent frame of reference. Stream 1 is a nifty name!
