what is the equivalent to VSTi in AU world ?

Hi list,

I wanted to know what is the equivalent to VST instruments in AU world ?
is it MusicDeviceBase ?
is it AUMIDIEffectBase ?

I've ran into problems with MusicDeviceBase. For example I can't GetSampleRate anymore, and some other thing, so I wondered what was that class for ?
