/Developer/Examples/CoreAudio/Services has a C version that uses the Audio
Converter and Default Output unit with sin wave generation (its kind of
similar to the Java example) For the HAL side of the Java code there's the
HAL directory.

The Java Doc also describes which C API call is called by the Java method -
so a translation should be fairly simple
