message boards.

In OS X when I try to record audio in, there's a problem with the audio
being not balanced properly when adjusting the gain (see my posts in
Apple Discussions-OS X-Audio). Since the problem is systemwide (not
limited to one app-already tried that), I thought that the problem might
exist in deeper.
The problem does not occur under OS 9. Others have mentioned having
similar difficulties, so I know it's not just me.
I ran the Developer app Daisy in Developer:Examples:CoreAudio:HAL:Daisy
and messing with it showed some odd things, such as that both input
channels 1 and 2 are listed as being linked to "ch 1" (under the "ch"
column), and adjusting input channels 1 and 2 both increase the gain in
the right channel only. Within a program such as Sound Studio or Spark
ME (the two recording programs currently on my computer), adjusting the
input gain fader results in both Daisy's channels 1 and 2's sliders
moving, but this only affects the right channel's input level. Getting
the two channels equal means having both sliders at the minimum (0)
position, or having Sound Studio's gain at -10 dB (same thing).
Sorry if it's confusingtrying to put this somewhat graphical thing into
words is difficult. :)
A quote from an email I received from the developer of Sound Studio,
Lucius Kwok, in reply to this question:
This will depend on what features Apple's OS supports, and the current
version, 10.1.1, has a bug with the sound input gain >controls, where
only one side can be changed. I hope Apple will fix this soon.
Does anyone know if this is a problem in Darwin or CoreAudio, and
perhaps where I can get a Darwin-compatible audio recording program to
check?
Thanks,
Chris
