Intermittantly the audio output (via the built-in speakers) simply
stops.
Perhaps you could give details as to what you are doing within your
program.
Some applications, such as iTunes, seem to "notice", in that the
interface
elements which indicate the current position in a sound will not
advance. Some
applications, such as the QuickTime player and Daisy, continue merrily
away,
playing their sounds into the void.
Again, what happened to cause the audio to stop? What apps were running?
I have found that plugging headphones into the headphone jack will often
suddenly restore the sound. Not always.
Maybe your hardware is bad. I would contact Apple.
OS X has been marketed to developers as Apple's premier audio
platform. I have
never received answers on this list, or in any other forum, about
Powerbook use
of CoreAudio via FireWire and USB. Aside from the bug I'm reporting
here,
10.1.2 is almost unbearably sluggish, and system beeps sometimes take
up to 2.5
seconds to play, hanging the app that attempted to beep, while the
beachball
spins. I'm starting to feel burned. Any relief in sight?
I find CoreAudio comparable to SGIs AF/DM libraries. It is even smarter
about some things. I agree that Aqua needs to optimizations. But,
CoreAudio has performed quite well for me.
I have never had a beep cause my app to stop. The beep and the current
audio just get mixed together in the "total" output buffer (which a
developer currently doesn't have access to).
More details would be helpful.
