Hi all,
I've been off the list for a little while between jobs, so apologies if
this has recently been covered.
I'm wondering what the current state-of-play is with MIDI interfaces
compatible with OS X is. I'm developing so it is somewhat frustrating
when hardware problems get in the way of smooth coding. I'm developing a
Cocoa app in Project Builder, currently using Mac OS X 10.1.5. I do have
the Jaguar pre-release from WWDC but I'm not using it on an everyday
machine because I need a stable machine to do my paid work on.
I bought a MIDIMAN MIDISport 2 x 2 earlier in the year, and have simple
stuff working, like sending program changes to the synth, but with SysEx
messages I am having problems. I have heard earlier reports of problems
with the MIDIMAN drivers and SysEx, so I wonder if this is still a
problem. I am using the latest (February 20) release of the drivers.
This installed the file ../Library/Audio/MIDI Drivers/MIDIMAN-
USB.plugin, which has date January 22, 2002, and is Version MIDIMAN-USB
1.0.
I'm wondering whether I should try a different interface ... I don't
want to fork out for another box but if it is a problem with the MIDIMAN
drivers then I will just have to.
The options that are readily available here are the Roland UM1 and UM2,
or I can order a MOTU FastLane for the same price as the UM2 ... but
both of these still have beta versions of drivers.
Thanks in advance,
Richard
