I think you are missing the point of what Bill was trying to say.
And likewise, you're missing my point :-).
I'm quite happy to build in a complex initialization sequence into
sfront, if the payoff is a more efficient audio engine.
I just need to confirm what that algorithm is -- that's why I
posted my best guess of what would work in the general case, in
order to get comments like "no, don't do X, do Y, you're assuming
something that isn't always going to be true" from folks who have
more experience than I do in the OS X world.
