Its an AudioBufferList where each buffer in the list represents a mono
channel. This is a representation of how the hardware lays out its channels,
and their comments about the conversion of this much data to interleaved are
also accurate.
Not only do we expect to see drivers appearing in this manner, but we would
actively encourage driver writers to publish their drivers in a manner that
best represents the layout of the driver's memory itself. This is most
efficient.
And yes - we do expect applications to support both devices that have
interleaved and non-interleaved channels
