Beginning Sound on OSX

Pardon my ignorance, but I was wondering if there was a simple coreaudio
example program that I could download. After perusing the sound example
programs on the apple web page I could not find any coreaudio samples.
I was also wondering if there is a FAQ for this list. I tried searching
the apple mail lists page, and even went into the coreaudio mail list
archives, but could not find one.
