The mix is a unity gain mix. No attenuation or gain is applied to any
client.

The headroom I refer to is the headroom above 1.0 (and below -1.0) that a
floating point number gives you. This frees the mix code from worrying about
overflow problems. It is one of the efficiencies of a floating point based
engine.
