I have a SF2 soundfont that doesn't produce sound in Quicktime, it is one I created with Vienna Studio on my old PC and it works fine with SBLive and LiveSynth Pro, but not in Quicktime for the PC or OS X. I haven't tried it in OS 9. Does CoreAudio use the same engine as Quicktime?

Jean-Alexis,

SoundFont version 2 files should be supported. There should be no
restrictions. If you have certain ones which seem to have problems,
please file a bug about it.
I tried three of them found on hammer sound
(http://www.hammersound.com/), in the 'collection' category:

http://www.jazzybee.com/fluid/
works, some volumes seems wrong (huge font, 135mo)

http://bennetng.uhome.net/AnotherGS/AnotherGS.html
many patches produce no sound, e.g. drums

http://www.sccmusic.250x.com/sfont/genuser/download.htm
In this font, many patches does not work, some have a wrong envelope,
some don't play at all. e.g. pianos, drums

Those font are freeware, compressed with exotic, sometime PC only
compressors, I don't trust especially the compliance of these files to a
standard. They seem to work fine on PC, but I have no way to check their
validity.

Also, if you have a quick and easy example of a freeware SoundFont file
that you have a web link to, then I could have a quick look since I'm
interested in fixing any problems here...
Well, if you have a PC to decompress the archives, they are easy to
download.

I tried them with SimpleSynth application.

Thanks,
Chris Rogers
