Ok, so now I _have_ tried it, and its actually quite smart: you point it
to your favorite audio app, and it will launch it (apparently because it
somehow overrides the audio I/O routines in Carbon/Cocoa?). After that, you
can use one of the builtin effects, or VST plugins (of which only Freeverb
worked for me, though), on the audio.

I've tried it with Audion, an MP3 player.
