I see what you're saying. However, using it isn't quite what it might look like. It's not so bad, you can drag the mouse sideways and the knob follows. You don't have to do circular movements unless you want easier precision.

It's definitely an improvement over a knob. I've always felt knobs were just silly controls to use in a computer interface, no matter how much time people put into them to make them work :) Bias seems to have found a nicer solution - which is similar to the "Circular Slider" mentioned on this list.

This is somewhat better. If it is a knob at least it looks like a slider. But still I wonder why is the control circular? You still have to make an awkard movement with the mouse. It seams to me that a design problem has been solved, and not a user's problem.
