i want to double this.
beside my very personal feelings and expieriences about user interface
of todays multimedia software solutions this is also what i hear from
many other users: a good interface is first of all small.
and there is no big difference between some friends of mine which are
hobbyists, and my clients (TV- and masteringstudios among them)
so that makes 2 points now which had been mentioned in this thread.
1.) the interface should not be taking more screenspace than neccesary.
2.) controls, sliders, knobs should represent what you are doing to the
parameter behind it, or what you are doing to the audiomaterial.
short note to 2.)
i hate all those 5.1 panners in the sequencer programs.
i think a good 5.1 panner would best represent what youre doing
when you sit in your 5.1 place, if it would be a flat oval, and not a
circle.
(oval = looks "3d", the soundsources position will follow your mouse)
also most are just too small.
(dont laugh now, imo best solution is the one from deck carbon, which
opens in a new, bigger window when you acces it.)
elements like halions blue ball, or the transparent sliders from
antares kantos may look fancy and help selling the product, but in the
end they make these great programs nearly unusable.
and to all those who think VST (or AU) APIs are for sissies only, and you
can do it better; please use the existing APIs : ))
yet another real user,
(whos normally only lurking becasue he hardly knows how to open
his codewarrior app)
