Here's my guess (and I could be wrong):
Its Info.plist says:
<key>IONameMatch</key>
<array>
<string>RackMac1,1</string>
</array>
so I'm guessing it's for the Xserve, which doesn't seem to have any
audio hardware. (There are no audio in or out jacks, certainly--maybe
there's an internal speaker somewhere in it, but I can't find any
evidence of that.) Probably this driver is just a stub so that the
rest of the system, or peoples' apps, don't freak out when they can't
find any audio devices.
So probably it's not what you were thinking!
