Thus you could have:
"Main Bus"
"Side-Chain Modulator bus"

Exactly, I really don't think you need to do more than that.
Naming the busses would be really useful.

I think it's up to an AU host to provide the appropriate routing facilities.

Track based sequencers could/should be updated to provide busses that can be routed to non-audio inputs (side-chains if you like).
