Hosting AudioUnits

Hi,

is there a possibility to "host" AudioUnits myself without using expensive programs like Logic?
Is there any example code how to host (use and test) AudioUnits in own programs?
Or are there any freeware/shareware/inexpensive programs out there that can already use AudioUnits?
