Re User Preset Sharing--
Though an application function or specialized helper app to export/import
CPreferences individual presets to files would work, I think the 'promised'
Appple-standardized format for saved sub-graph files (chains of plugins)
would be a more viable way for users to share patches.
If standardized sub-graph save/load was supported by most hosts, there would
be no need to figure out a way to manage sets of plugin presets to/from
CPreferences preset files.
If Judy User wants to upload her favorite synth or effects settings, she can
set up the individual synth plugin (or an elaborate chain of
synth->effect1->effect2 whatever) in a mixer insert, then save that subgraph
for upload. She can fill a folder with sub-graph files and upload/email the
entire stuffit archive.
Users who want to use her presets simply download the sub-graph files and
load them into a mixer insert for audition. If the user likes a particular
preset, he can save it to his CPreferences preset list.
Wouldn't this be more powerful than simply sharing individual plugin
presets?
