Have you filed a bug?
Please, everyone (not jumping on you specifically Andy): if you get a
panic, REPORT IT AS A BUG. Panics should never happen. If they do,
they're automatically a bug. And in this case--when there is no 3rd
party kernel extension involved, just USB user-client code--it's almost
certain that it's Apple's bug to fix.
It's also an indirect way to make your system more stable. I've
reported a number of panics in the last year, and now 10.2 never panics
on my machine! Someday I'd like to see the new 'user-friendly' panic
screen, but I'm willing to wait...
