MIDI Clients and Ports names

Hello

I am implementing CoreMIDI for an application. When creating a client
and in/out ports the functions - MIDIClientCreate() and MIDIInputPortCreate() -
take a name parameter. How is the name used?
The client and the ports are not visible to other apps. Can I use empty strings?
