AudioUnits since day 1 have been capable of multi channel in and out. If there were any vendors who made such a decision, they were incorrect in their premises. In Panther we are adding the ability to give meanings to various channel layouts. This is just an extension of descriptive capability but it does allow the whole system to deal more intelligently with multi channel. If you have a Panther seed from WWDC, the channel layout stuff can be found in CoreAudio/CoreAudioTypes.h and AudioToolbox/AudioFormat.h.

Any idea when we will be able to get the documentation on this? I am assuming this will part of the rumored changes to Audio Units as well. Is there anything we can look at that will allow us to start planning for multi-channel devices? I know a couple of vendors now that have abandoned Audio units because there was not a multi-channel capability.
