VOX recording

Hi,

Does anyone know is vox recording is still supported
under os x. I can not find any notices that it
discontinued, and universal headers still have
relevant constants. My carbon application does work
under os 9. But under x the call to SPBSetDeviceInfo
with siVoxRecordInfo returns error:

siUnknownInfoType = -231, /*invalid info
type selector (returned by driver)*/

on powerbook g4 and beige g3.

If vox is not supported on os x what would be an
appropriate native (better carbon) approach to the
task of voice (level) activated sound recording?
