Multiple IO semantic hassle

Hi,

imagine a tiny little synth wants two optional, non-interleaved audio inputs, A and B, one for modulation and one for processing through its signal path. Now it would be possible to have optionally mono and/or stereo ins. So it would offer these IO configs:

{{0,2}, {1,2}, {2,2}, {3,2}, {4,2}}

Now, the musician connects a stereo source to Input A and a mono source to Input B. How should this poor synth determine which incomming buffer belongs to which stream?

;) Urs
