I found a work-around (if it is that - maybe it's the right way to handle it?) for my audio bung problem. If I use IORegisterForSystemPower to detect wake/sleep notifications
and use those notifications to turn off/turn on sound generation then everything's OK.

I would have thought that the NSSound underpinnings would have handled this
already, but I guess not.

Hope that's useful to some people.
