A word on AIF file formats
A word on AIF file formats

We've had a few reports of problems using the AudioFile API with the
10.2.3 update. As of this update the AudioFile API has been extensively
revised.
The most noticeable change is that AIF files that have floating point
data were originally being allowed to be created with the 'AIFF'
format. This is actually incorrect, an AIF file with floating point
data should be formatted as an 'AIFC' format according to the AIF file
specification - this is now how the API behaves. (The same is true for
those files that contain little-endian ordered data - like audio CD
tracks - these are also 'AIFC' types of files).
We would hope that the different audio apps that are on the market
would support AIFC files (at least deal with those that contain PCM
data - which is most of them). I've had a number of complaints from
people who end up having to copy their audio data, using QuickTime
Player to re-export an AIFC file to AIFF so that they can open the data
in these apps.
Thanks
Bill
